Yusuf Demir - Building Ensures Growth
That day I was so excited when my father said that I was supposed to go abroad for university. After checking a couple of universities, finally, I chose the IUS. The reason why I chose it was that it was the closest university to Turkey which is a Turkish foundation university and as well as the fact that its main language is English. So this is how I got involved with IUS. I was so lucky about being a member of IUS and having a lot of friends from different countries. It gave me a chance to communicate with strangers to get to know about their culture, how they live, what they do, and so on. By this, I improved my language and got experience in communication with other students at IUS.
When I came back home, I realized that I have to do a master’s degree to improve myself. So I did master’s degree in urban transformation. After a while, I opened a professional architectural office. After working for some months alone, I realized that I am getting more customers; therefore I got 2 workers to help me. By the time, our professionalism gave me the encouragement and I promised myself that I will always try to do the best project for each customer that comes to me. So day by day I got 12 workers. I do both exterior and interior design projects.
Besides that, we do interior applications, hotel projects, commercial buildings, social housing projects, school projects. During my profession up until now, I have a sign on 315 building projects and 28 interior projects. In 2018, I started to design interior projects not only in Turkey but also abroad in Austria, Germany, and Qatar. My goal is to open an office in Europe and get more experience there. The most important part for me is that I feel so lucky to be an architect for making a lot of projects for charity such as mosques, orphanages, külliyes around the world. My profession is my main passion but, I am also active in politics. I am vice president of the AK Party in Sultanbeyli, İstanbul. It is difficult to do politics and architecture at the same time, but both of them give me a lot of chances to communicate with people easily and get experience quickly. My profession and political engagement seems to be not enough for me, so I became a volunteer member of an association that helps people who suffer all over the world.
In conclusion I can say that IUS life took my youth years, but gave a lot of experiences. Times spent for education and professional development is never wasted time. Focus on your goals and work hard. Today, I am a Master of architecture, and I use my profession in my professional life, as well as in my charity projects. So, to the great extent, owe my success to IUS.
