Nejra Vreto - International environment is an asset

In 2018 I graduated from the Department of Social and Political Sciences, as the best student of SPS and second- best in the whole generation.

“IUS gave me a solid base for my further education, as it shaped my career path in many ways. Most importantly, I have determined my focus and continued striving for more knowledge and international experiences”.

My international experience starts back at IUS, from the freshmen year when I went to Romania for an internship and afterward in the second year when I went to Erasmus+ Exchange in Lithuania for one semester. While studying at IUS I was also working part- time in the International Relations Office as a PR Assistant. Because of this unique Erasmus+ experience, I was also invited to be a speaker on that particular topic at the European Union (EU) Info Centre in Sarajevo as well as a speaker on the Youth panel “We are Europe too – youth issues and politics in Western Balkans” within Progressive Politics in Western Balkans Academy in Skopje, North Macedonia.

By the end of the fourth year, I have engaged myself actively in politics and political activism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, I have continued my informal education throughout various NGOs with a focus on project management and political training. Thus, I have received many certificates being a participant in both national and international political academies, as well as received a certificate for the trainer in politics during Masterclass in Hague, Netherlands.

After completing my Bachelor’s degree at the International University of Sarajevo I continued my studies at the European Regional Master of Human Rights and Democracy (ERMA). While pursuing my MA degree I have also completed an internship in the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) and my thesis in Bologna, Italy on the topic “Role of Parliaments and MPs in the Promotion of Gender Equality: Case study of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
I am currently working as a Program Coordinator in Boris Divkovic Foundation (BDF), Program Manager on the project developed with International Organization for Migration (IOM) as well as being a member of Parliamentary Expert Support Initiative for the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH with International Republican Institute (IRI).

“I would advocate that all students must go for at least one semester to Erasmus+ exchange, to become richer for broader knowledge and international experience which is crucial for our growth, both as a youth and future leaders. My message to young people would be – go and travel all across Europe and the world, invest in yourself, in your education but come back afterward and invest in your country as well. “
